Description
This course (NRA Basics of the Pistol) is an intensive overview in gun safety, gun handling, various types of pistols, ammunition, the fundamentals of pistol marksmanship, proper grip, stance, gun cleaning and gun storage. We will also perform practical shooting exercises at the firing range. This class is great for beginners as well as seasoned gun enthusiast. All students will get the NRA’s Basics Pistol Shooting handbook. An NRA Basic Pistol certificate will be awarded after demonstration of safe gun handling at all times and after successfully passing a short written test covering course material.
You will need the following: (1) driver’s license/state identification; (2) a concealable semi-automatic or revolver handgun and owner’s manual; (3) a box of 50 or 100 rounds of full metal jacket ammunition; (4) a valid FOID card if you plan to rent a weapon or buy ammunition; (5) a rigid non-collapsible holster, (6) a baseball cap, closed toe shoes and preferably long pants; shirts; (7) shooting safety glasses and ear muffs or ear plugs and (8) a handgun cleaning kit (brush with handle, solvent, gun oil, cotton cloth and patches). Student must demonstrate the knowledge of field stripping and cleaning a pistol.
You may bring your unloaded weapon to class and to the firing range in a pistol case or range bag. Live ammunition is NOT allowed in the classroom, and all magazines and chambers must be clear and checked before the start of class. Remember, you can NOT transport your firearm on your person or in the compartment of your car until you get your permit. You are allowed to transport your unloaded weapon to the firing range, while in your trunk and inside a case or range bag.
